Tension has gripped the Ogidi community in the Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State following the brutal killing of its President-General, Ikwuka Okoye, popularly known as Anumili, and another individual. The attack, which occurred on Friday, February 6, at the School Field, Ogidi, has been linked by authorities to a reprisal attack by suspected cultists.

Ikwuka Okoye, a prominent community leader, was gunned down alongside another man, identified by sources as his relative, during a late-evening assault. Reports indicate that the perpetrators are believed to be members of a rival cult group, seeking revenge for the recent capture and killing of their leader by local security operatives within the community. The incident has plunged Ogidi into panic, with residents expressing fear and many choosing to remain indoors amid concerns of escalating violence.

The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the tragic event through its spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Saturday. Ikenga stated that the Command "regrets the murder of the President-General of the Ogidi community and one other person." He further corroborated the alleged link between the killings and the "recent capture and killing of a known notorious cultist within the community."

Following the report, police operatives were swiftly deployed to the scene to secure the area and commence investigations. SP Ikenga assured the public that the police are actively working with eyewitness accounts and other available intelligence to identify and apprehend those responsible for the heinous act.
