AMC's Next Big Hit: 'Succession' Writer's Drama Renewed Before Debut!

AMC's highly anticipated new tech satire, "The Audacity," created by Emmy Award-winning Jonathan Glatzer, known for his work on "Succession," has already made significant waves in the industry. The series premiered its first two episodes to rave reviews at SXSW and, notably, secured a Season 2 renewal from the network even before its official eight-episode first season debut, signaling AMC's strong confidence in the show's potential.
"The Audacity" plunges viewers into the "sinister side of Silicon Valley," exploring a world rife with "major egos, loose morals, and jaded billionaires." The series stars Billy Magnussen as Duncan Park, a "brazen data-mining CEO" determined to convert his insights into substantial profit and power. Creator Jonathan Glatzer describes the show as a "dark," wild ride, emphasizing that while "audacity is kind of regarded as a real attribute" in Silicon Valley, it possesses a dark side: "Being a bull in a china shop means a lot of broken dishes."
The impressive ensemble cast features Zach Galifianakis, Lucy Punch, Paul Adelstein, Simon Helberg, Meaghan Rath, and Rob Corddry. Director Lucy Forbes and executive producer Gina Mingacci are also integral to the creative team. Collider's Steve Weintraub conducted insightful interviews with both the cast and creatives, offering a deeper look into the series' development and thematic elements.
In the first group interview, stars Simon Helberg, Meaghan Rath, and Rob Corddry, alongside director Lucy Forbes, discussed the experience of exploring Glatzer’s "audacious cast of characters" and the challenge of grounding "The Audacity’s" larger-than-life narrative. They also shared how working on the series has impacted their daily lives and hinted at the pervasive role of smartphones becoming a "landmine" within the story. The cast collectively teased a Season 1 finale that will leave viewers "speechless" and "screaming in frustration," promising significant character progression for Season 2.
The second interview, featuring Jonathan Glatzer, Billy Magnussen, Lucy Punch, Paul Adelstein, and executive producer Gina Mingacci, delved into the origins of the series. Glatzer revealed that the initial impetus to explore the "strange and interesting" tech space came from AMC’s head of network, Dan McDermott. The conversation also highlighted "The Audacity’s" unique tone and the production's commitment to authentic settings, taking cameras "back to the streets" rather than relying solely on soundstages. Magnussen humorously described his character, Duncan Park, as a "f*ing piece of sh*t" who is completely oblivious to his own nature, while praising Glatzer as a "modern-day Shakespearean elevated writer." The creative team affirmed that there are "no boundaries" in the series and playfully anticipated more "satisfying" beatings for Magnussen’s character in Season 2.
"The Audacity" is set to premiere on Sunday, April 12, on AMC and AMC+, with new episodes being released every Sunday thereafter.
