ADC Chieftain Urges Wike to Address Kuje Chairman’s Alleged Threats
An African Democratic Congress chieftain, Okai Austin, has urged FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to caution Kuje Area Council Chairman Samuel Shekwolo over alleged divisive comments. Austin warned that Shekwolo's remarks, including threatening critics and non-APC supporters, could escalate political tensions and undermine peace in the Federal Capital Territory.
African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain and human rights activist Okai Austin has appealed to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to intervene over alleged threatening and divisive remarks by Kuje Area Council Chairman Samuel Shekwolo. The call followed a viral video purportedly showing Shekwolo threatening social media critics and allegedly directing residents who do not support the All Progressives Congress (APC) to leave the area council.
Austin described the alleged comments as dangerous and warned that inflammatory statements from public officials could heighten political tensions and potentially trigger violence. Austin urged Shekwolo to exercise restraint and promote peace, tolerance and inclusiveness in governing Kuje, stressing that political differences should not threaten peaceful coexistence among residents.
He also called on relevant authorities to examine the allegations and ensure that elected and appointed officials uphold peace and order across the FCT. He emphasized that Kuje’s reputation for peace and tolerance should be reflected in the conduct of its leadership, citing former FCT Senator Philip Aduda as an example of peaceful political engagement.
The ADC chieftain further appealed to Wike and other authorities to act promptly before the situation escalates. Austin maintained that responsible leadership requires restraint and respect for divergent political opinions, particularly in a diverse territory such as the FCT.
He stressed that political disagreements are part of democratic society but should never be allowed to undermine social harmony or create unnecessary tension among residents.
