Abuja–Kaduna Train Derails Shortly After Departure, Evacuation Underway

A passenger train en route from Abuja to Kaduna experienced a derailment on Tuesday morning, prompting scenes of panic and confusion among its occupants. The incident occurred shortly after the train's departure from Abuja around 11 a.m., with eyewitnesses reporting that several carriages overturned. Passengers scrambled to safety amidst the chaotic aftermath, though the exact cause of the derailment remains unclear at this time. Authorities have not yet confirmed any injuries or casualties resulting from the accident.
In response to the emergency, military personnel were promptly deployed to the scene to assist in evacuating stranded passengers and to secure the affected area. Emergency response teams are actively managing the situation, and officials are expected to issue a formal statement as more details become available. This incident is one of several recent rail-related occurrences, with related reports mentioning previous derailments such as the Kaduna-Abuja line, in Taiwan, and the Itakpe-Warri route.

The President confirmed he had received initial reports of the incident and stated he would continue to receive regular updates. Through his verified X handle, @officialABAT, President Tinubu conveyed his heartfelt prayers for those injured, their families, and all passengers who endured the distressing experience, emphasizing his commitment to staying updated on developments.
President Tinubu further stated his anticipation of a full briefing to ensure that swift action is taken and adequate support is provided to all affected individuals. He noted that theNigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) is already actively addressing the situation. The President also highlighted the importance of taking necessary steps to prevent similar occurrences in the future, underscoring the gravity of the incident and the need for enhanced rail safety measures.
