Zimbabwe Rocked: Leaked US Intel Exposes Chilling Plot Against VP Chiwenga

A highly sensitive intelligence report, marked “Top Secret” and “Urgent” and believed to have originated from the United States government, has surfaced, detailing an alleged plot to assassinate Zimbabwean Vice President Constantino Chiwenga. The document, reported by Newsday on October 17, 2025, identifies a Belarusian-linked “contract asset” codenamed BEDROCK, which is allegedly tasked with eliminating Chiwenga, who is referred to by his liberation war name, Dominic Chinenge.
The intelligence brief describes Chiwenga as “an astute Zimbabwean national and general, shadow head of the military and designated with Tier 5 credentials within the presidency,” and warns that his burgeoning influence had “placed him at the centre of an aggressive ploy to assassinate him.” This assessment underpins the gravity of the alleged threat against the Vice President.
According to the leaked file, BEDROCK has been actively engaged in surveillance for the past three months, monitoring Chiwenga’s movements and communications across the United Arab Emirates and China. The operative reportedly stands ready for “command to activate active measures within plausible proximity.” In a disturbing revelation, the document further claims that “DNA and urine samples of ‘Chinenge’ have been collected and analysed to dilute possible counter-measures,” suggesting a sophisticated level of biological tracking and preparation by the alleged plotters.
The report also details the financial backing for this operation, alleging that US$100,000 was wired to a Jersey NatWest account. This payment was reportedly facilitated through an offshore trust instrument via AFTRADE DMCC Offshore Trust, a company explicitly linked to Belarus, and was intended to finance the operational phase of the assassination attempt. BEDROCK itself is associated with a Belarusian military unit with a history of deployments in regions such as Iraq and Equatorial Guinea, and the operation is given a specific file reference: ZANUPF372921/08224CGNC.
The timing of these allegations is particularly significant, emerging amidst deepening political infighting within Zimbabwe’s ruling Zanu-PF party. This internal strife is largely driven by a fierce succession struggle between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy. Notably, on September 17, 2025, Chiwenga reportedly submitted a dossier to President Mnangagwa, accusing several of the president’s allies—including prominent businessmen Kudakwashe Tagwirei, Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya, Delish Nguwaya, and Wicknell Chivayo—of siphoning billions of US dollars from state coffers.
The political tensions escalated sharply days later when Justice Minister and Zanu-PF legal affairs secretary Ziyambi Ziyambi went public, accusing Chiwenga of treason. This public charge underscored the intense and bitter nature of the power struggle currently unfolding at the highest echelons of the ruling party.
The international dimension of this alleged plot is also highlighted. Intelligence sources cited in the document assert that the Five Eyes (FVEY) intelligence alliance—comprising the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand—along with Washington, are “fully aware of BEDROCK.” The report itself remains classified under the U.S. National Security Act of 2021.
While the authenticity of the leaked document could not be independently verified, its circulation has profoundly intensified speculation regarding the extent of the rift within Zimbabwe’s leadership and the alleged involvement of foreign entities in its internal political affairs. To date, neither the United States government, Zimbabwean authorities, nor Belarusian officials have issued any public comment regarding the purported intelligence report.
