Zari Hassan and Shakib Share Heartbreak: Miscarriage Revealed Amid Family Plans

Ugandan socialite and businesswoman Zari Hassan recently made a deeply personal revelation, confirming that she suffered a miscarriage earlier this year during her first pregnancy with husband Shakib Cham Lutaaya. This disclosure came after weeks of intense online speculation fueled by photos of Zari, which appeared to show a baby bump, circulating widely on social media. The images quickly went viral, leading many to assume she was expecting.
Zari, however, clarified that the viral photos were taken during a professional shoot, dismissing the pregnancy rumors as unfounded. She expressed frustration with the public's quick assumptions, stating, “People are silly. They see me on my Snapchat every day posting pictures of myself, and they know I’m not pregnant. Can I get pregnant in just two days? They should use common sense. I even put a hashtag showing I was on set, but they just ran with everything.” Despite debunking the rumors, Zari unequivocally confirmed her conception earlier in the year, tragically losing the pregnancy at six weeks in May.
In the wake of this loss, Zari remains resilient and hopeful about expanding her family with Shakib. She articulated her strong bond with her husband, remarking, “He is my person, and he understands me so much. He is my personal person and my go-to person. I get him the same way he gets me. Other men didn’t understand me like Shakib. God gave him to me as a gift.” Zari is already a mother of five, with three children from her late ex-partner Ivan Semwanga and two with Tanzanian musician Diamond Platnumz. Shakib has also previously acknowledged having children from past relationships, underscoring the couple's shared desire for a family together.
Further corroborating the painful event, Shakib Lutaaya has since opened up about the miscarriage, describing it as a deeply personal and difficult subject to discuss publicly. During a series of recent interviews, he confirmed that the couple experienced the loss in May. Shakib explained his initial silence on the matter, stating he was fully aware of the situation but chose not to make a public statement out of respect for his wife, who had already spoken openly. He prefers to handle personal matters privately, entrusting Zari to provide further details if she wishes.
Beyond the personal tragedy, Shakib also addressed another long-standing query from the public: why he does not follow Zari on Instagram. In an interview, he confirmed they have not followed each other for approximately a year. He clarified that his decision was a direct reaction to Zari's initial action of unfollowing him, rather than a premeditated move, and that they have never had a formal discussion about the issue. The couple, whose age-gap relationship has consistently been a subject of public scrutiny, frequently makes headlines across East Africa. Shakib’s recent media appearances offer a rare insight into the unique challenges faced by this high-profile couple, from navigating personal grief to managing their public image and social media presence.
