Zambian Election Turmoil: Mundubile Rises Amidst Political Firestorm
Brian Mundubile has voiced grave concerns over political violence, urging President Hichilema to condemn such acts and ensure accountability for those responsible. Simultaneously, he has been lauded by Professor Kaluba Kapapula for his principled leadership and comprehensive vision for Zambia's future, encompassing economic self-reliance and national unity.
Brian Mundubile has emerged as a significant figure in Zambian politics, actively campaigning and articulating his vision while also raising critical concerns regarding political stability. During a campaign rally in Nsama District, Mr. Mundubile drew attention to a series of violent attacks, alleging that several lives had been lost in incidents involving UPND cadres. He made a direct appeal to President Hichilema, urging him to publicly distance himself from individuals behind these acts of violence.
Mr. Mundubile specifically cited the killing of a person in Kaputa, noting that initial attempts to blame the opposition were later disproven. He also highlighted the tragic death of a radio technician in Lusaka, who was reportedly attacked after playing the campaign song “Mundubile na Makebi Bengilile.” Furthermore, he expressed profound sadness over the deaths of four individuals in Lusaka’s Kanyama area, incidents which he also attributed to UPND cadres.
Despite these serious allegations, the NRPUP leader asserted that his campaign team has maintained a steadfast commitment to peace, even in the face of repeated provocations. He shared that throughout his twenty rallies, his team has not engaged in any violence. Mr. Mundubile recounted instances where they encountered UPND cadres attempting to block their path and incite them, but his team chose restraint. He added that his supporters had also demonstrated a commitment to non-retaliation during confrontations in Chipangali and while en route to Nsama, underscoring the alliance's unwavering dedication to peaceful campaigns.
In a powerful plea, Mr. Mundubile called upon President Hichilema to openly condemn all acts of political violence and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. He specifically asked the President to publicly denounce the loss of lives in Chawama, Kaputa, and Kanyama, stating, “If you are innocent in these deaths, denounce your cadres publicly.”
Complementing his political activism, Brian Mundubile has received strong endorsements, notably from Professor Kaluba Kapapula, who described him as a man of principle, patience, and unshakable conviction. Prof. Kapapula emphasized Mundubile's profound understanding that true leadership transcends mere office occupation; it involves carrying the hopes of a people and transforming those hopes into measurable, lasting progress. He lauded Mundubile's temperament as a statesman, characterized by calmness under pressure, decisiveness when it matters most, and unwavering honesty, even when it comes at a personal cost.
Prof. Kapapula highlighted Brian Mundubile's unique blend of deep legal and parliamentary experience, a proven record of public service, and a clear vision for Zambia. This vision is firmly rooted in economic self-reliance, disciplined governance, and ensuring dignity for every citizen, regardless of their province, political affiliation, or social standing. He stressed Mundubile's belief that national advancement is achieved through shared purpose rather than division, a crucial perspective in these consequential times for Zambia. Prof. Kapapula concluded by expressing his conviction that Brian Mundubile is the leader Zambia deserves—one who will not flinch in the face of challenges—and urged all Zambians who share a vision of a stronger, more united, and prosperous republic to stand with him on August 13.
