Yes Tour on Hold: Guitar Legend Steve Howe Faces Urgent Operation!

The renowned English progressive rock band Yes has officially announced the postponement of their upcoming European tour, citing a crucial medical procedure required for their esteemed guitarist, Steve Howe. The band made the announcement via social media on Thursday, April 2, stating that the 11-date "Fragile" tour across Europe would be delayed to provide Howe with adequate recovery time following an undisclosed but essential operation.
In their statement, Yes elaborated, "The upcoming YES ‘Fragile’ UK and EU Tour, due to commence on 22nd April, has had to be postponed as guitarist Steve Howe requires an essential operation that requires recovery time." The decision, they emphasized, was made to guarantee that Steve Howe can return to the stage in optimal health, ensuring he can deliver the high-quality performances that their dedicated fanbase expects and deserves. The European leg of the tour was initially slated to kick off on April 22 at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall in Scotland and was designed to feature a complete rendition of the band's iconic 1971 album, Fragile. This European segment was intended to follow a successful North American leg that took place in 2025.
Yes also reassured fans regarding the rescheduled dates and existing tickets. "We are working hard to reschedule the UK and EU shows to a later date, with full details to be announced after Easter. Please retain your tickets as they will be valid for the rescheduled dates," the band communicated. They further confirmed that any tour dates already being arranged for later in 2026 would proceed as originally planned, unaffected by this current postponement. Steve Howe and the entire Yes band extended their gratitude to their UK fans, expressing hope for their continued support during this period.
The album central to the postponed tour, Fragile, holds a significant place in Yes's discography. Released in November 1971, it marked the band's fourth studio album and an impressive third release within a mere 16-month timeframe. Fragile became the group's most commercially successful record up to that point, significantly building upon the foundation laid by The Yes Album, which had reached No. 40 on the Billboard 200 chart. Fragile itself soared to No. 4 on the Billboard 200, a peak that would only be surpassed by their subsequent masterpiece, Close to the Edge, released the following year.
A poignant note regarding the band's history surrounding the Fragile era is the evolving lineup. Of the original musicians who recorded Fragile, only Steve Howe remains an active member of Yes. Drummer Bill Bruford departed the group in 1992, while vocalist Jon Anderson and keyboardist Rick Wakeman both left in 2004. Bassist Chris Squire, a foundational member, remained with the band until his passing in 2015, marking the end of an era for the progressive rock pioneers.
