Wonder Woman Star Confirmed for James Gunn's Superman Follow-Up!

James Gunn's highly anticipated film, 'Man of Tomorrow', which serves as a follow-up to last summer's 'Superman', has reportedly finalized the casting for its last major character. The role has been a subject of considerable speculation and controversy, with reports now indicating that Adria Arjona, known for her work in 'Hit Man', has been cast. Prior to this, actresses such as Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler, and Grace Van Patten were rumored contenders. Last week, the casting process faced a storm of conflicting reports, with one outlet suggesting Arjona, Ella Purnell, and Marisa Abela were testing for a mystery role, a claim swiftly denied by Gunn himself. Following the retraction of that report, another list of names emerged which Gunn notably did not deny.

Adding to the intrigue, the character's identity itself has been a moving target. Initially, the role was rumored to be Maxima, an alien queen with a complex history with Superman. However, current reports suggest this might not be accurate, fueling intense speculation that the mystery role is, in fact, Wonder Woman. This theory gains traction from the fact that a film featuring a new incarnation of Wonder Woman is reportedly in development at the studio. Furthermore, James Gunn previously made a notable comment, stating that Adria Arjona, who had worked with him on 'The Belko Experiment', would be "a great Wonder Woman."

While many specifics about 'Man of Tomorrow' are being kept under wraps, some crucial details have emerged. Gunn has clarified that the film is not a direct sequel to 'Superman'. The plot will revolve around the Man of Steel, portrayed by David Corenswet, being compelled to form an unlikely alliance with his arch-nemesis, the megalomaniacal tycoon Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult. Their combined efforts will be required to defend Earth from an even greater, super-intelligent alien threat: Brainiac, brought to life by Lars Eidinger.

The ensemble cast further solidifies the film's potential. Alongside the central trio, several other DC characters are confirmed to appear. These include Superman returnees Guy Gardner, played by Nathan Fillion; Hawkgirl, portrayed by Isabela Merced; and Mr. Terrific, with Edi Gathegi in the role. Aaron Pierre will debut as John Stewart, a character set to appear first in HBO Max's 'Lanterns' this spring. The film will also feature familiar Superman supporting characters: Lois Lane, played by Rachel Brosnahan; Jimmy Olsen, with Skyler Gisondo; and Eve Teschmacher, portrayed by Sara Sampaio.

'Man of Tomorrow' is directed and written by James Gunn, with Peter Safran also serving as a producer. The film is officially slated for release in theaters on July 9, 2027, promising a fresh take on the DC Universe with its blend of action, sci-fi, and superhero storytelling.
