Where to Get Thai Food in Hoboken + Jersey City

Published 15 hours ago7 minute read

Foodies know that Hoboken + Jersey City are both home to some of the best restaurants in New Jersey. With the closing of Sri Thai back in 2024, many Hoboken residents have also been searching for other places to go when a Thai food craving strikes. And when this happens, there are more than a few places worth a visit. We fully support ordering Thai food for a Bravo-binge night at home, but add these to your list for a fun meal out.

Bangkok City is an authentic Thai restaurant in the heart of downtown Hoboken. It’s a go-to for takeout, but it’s also a fun spot to throw in the group chat when planning the group hang. The menu has something for everyone like Papaya Salad, Tom Kha Kai (chicken soup in coconut milk broth), Kiew Wan (green curry), and Pad Thai. And with Mango + Sticky Rice and Thai Custard on the menu, leave some room for dessert (take it from us, dessert is always the right move).

T Thai is an authentic Thai restaurant with Pad Thai, Panang Curry, and Massaman Curry on the menu. Try one of the chef’s specials like the Grilled Chilean Sea Bass with a Mango Salad or Duck Pad Thai. For something sweet, order the Green Tea Ice Cream, Sweet Sticky Rice with Strawberry, or Coconut Milk Pudding (better yet, why not try all three).

Purple Rice, a family-owned Asian- restaurant mainly specializes in Chinese dishes.  While you won’t find Pad Thai or Tom Yum soup on the menu, one of the signature drinks is Thai Iced Milk Tea.

This Asian-American eatery in Bergen-Lafayette quickly became a local go-to after it opened in 2017. The menu covers a range of cuisines including Indian, Korean, and Thai. Some stand-out dishes are the Thai Shrimp and Chicken Dumplings appetizer and Thai Basil Fried Rice. The Bourbon Bacon Drunken Noodle has stir-fried udon noodles, bourbon-rendered bacon, vegetables, and Thai basil.

More Express is a sushi bar and Asian bistro in downtown Jersey City. It’s worth taking a midday lunch break for the specials — like Thai Chili Basil and Green Curry — served with white or brown rice. Pineapple Fried Rice, Thai Sausage Fried Rice, and Pad Thai are some of the other Thai-inspired dishes to try.

This is one of the best options for Thai food in The Heights. Since the menu is packed with flavorful dishes, there’s always something new to try. Red or green Curry Noodle Soup, Siam Curry Duck, Bangkok Curry Fish, and Nana Thai Mussels all stand out to us. But, of course, there’s nothing wrong with getting the same comfort food dish, like Pad Thai, again and again.

one dee siam jersey city

Popular NYC Thai restaurant One Dee Siam opened a Jersey City location in 2021. (We always support exciting eateries coming across the Hudson.) This is one of the best spots in downtown Jersey City for authentic Thai flavors. (Plus, it’s BYOB.) It’s worth stopping by to try the Crab Meat Fried Rice, Pad Woon Sen noodles, or Duck Noodle Soup. We tried Pad Thai and Basil Fried Rice with tofu. Seafood lovers will also enjoy the soft shell crab and whole fish entrees.

The Prince + I is a Thai restaurant in downtown Jersey City, not too far from One Dee Siam. Here, diners can order Tom Yam Noodle Soup or Khao Soi (Thai Red Curry Noodle Soup) with salmon, chicken, pork belly, or mackerel. If you’re not in the mood for soup, the Pad Thai and other classic noodle dishes are  always an option.

Jersey City residents never seem to get enough of their bagel cravings, and a new bagel shop is coming to fill the void this May. Cheech’s Bagels is a new bagel concept opening at 176 Erie Street in the Swift + Co. building, near Hamilton Park. The visionary owners behind Cheech’s Bagels are Gianluca Fernicola and John Ballan, lifelong friends and Jersey City residents who saw a need for more bagel options in the area. We now know that the new bagel spot will open on Wednesday, May 7th. Read on to learn more about Cheech’s Bagels, coming soon to Jersey City, and the owners behind it.

Cheech’s Bagels announced via Instagram in January 2024 that it will be “coming soon” to 176 Erie Street in Jersey City. The announcement came on a particular day: National Bagel Day, January 15th. That same day, SILVERMAN Real Estate Group also announced on its Instagram that a lease was signed between Cheech’s Bagels and Swift + Co.

The post on SILVERMAN’S Instagram read, “Crazy day in Jersey City. It’s National Bagel Day as you probably already know, and what did we do? We signed a lease with Cheech’s Bagels, for Swift & Co. Get ready to meet longtime friends and business partners Gianluca and John, and enjoy the best bagels and more. Opening in 2024 at 176 Erie Street, Jersey City. @cheechsbagels. Thanks to broker @joachim_horvitz and the SILVERMAN team including @vanessaimme and @stefanlyons.”

On the next National Bagel Day — January 15th, 2025 — Cheech's Bagels took to Instagram to share the news that the new bagel spot will open this March. See the full post below.

Now, we know that Cheech's Bagels will officially open in downtown JC on Wednesday, May 7th, per an Instagram post from the team.

John Ballan and Gianluca Fernicola have been lifelong friends since high school and Jersey City residents for seven years. Though Jersey City has charm and vibrant culture, there was one thing John and Gianluca found lacking in town — an authentic breakfast spot that served bagels. The duo asked themselves, “In a lively city where hangovers are a promise and bread is nearly a right of passage, where the heck do we get breakfast?” Faced with limited bagel options in the area, they decided to make that change together.

John shared the inspiration behind the name. Cheech is named after John's late chihuahua with a “sassy attitude.” John and Cheech would spend countless mornings together exploring the city, browsing coffee shops, and getting breakfast — with bagels being a particular favorite.

Gianluca is a trained chef owning two well-established pizzeria locations throughout New Jersey — Hasbrouck Heights Pizza in Hasbrouck Heights and Parsippany's Best Pizza in Parsippany. His culinary journey, from growing up in the industry, attending culinary school, and gaining hands-on experience in the kitchens of some of New York’s finest restaurants, positions him to deliver his culinary expertise to Cheech’s Bagels.

Together, they dedicated hours to perfecting recipes, experimenting with ingredients, and infusing their love for bagels into their craft. Once perfected, Cheech’s Bagels was born and is coming soon to downtown Jersey City near Hamilton Park.

Cheech’s Bagels will open at 176 Erie Street in downtown Jersey City. The plan is to combine the feel of a classic American diner with the lively spirit of a deli. The combination creates an atmosphere where customers can savor their bagels without the need to stand in long lines and instead unwind in a cozy booth.

The menu features a wide selection of bagels, coffee, and breakfast with the choice of specialty sandwiches, spreads, add-ons, and vegan options. Some of its special menu items include a Cheech’s Bagel made with sausage, egg, American cheese, and maple syrup on a griddled plain bagel; a carbonara bagel made with bacon, egg, pecorino cheese, and truffle oil on a garlic bagel; and the HashJam Bagel made with bacon, egg, cheese, and hashbrowns with homemade jam on a hand-rolled bagel.

Cheech’s Bagels also welcomes vegan options that include a tofu scramble made with tofu and plant-based cheese on a hand-rolled bagel, and a challah bagel made with carrot lox, onions, tofu cream cheese, and dill on a plain bagel. Many of the ingredients will be sourced from local farms and food groups. Stay tuned on the company’s Instagram for the latest updates.
