'We're giving children with cancer a chance to live' - Akua Sarpong rallies Support at lifesaving blood donation
The event was organized in partnership with NOVA Premier Ventures Limited and supported by NMTC
Akua Sarpong, Chief Executive of Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Ghana, is championing a mission to give children battling cancer a greater chance of survival through timely access to blood.
At a recent blood donation exercise held at the Nursing and Midwifery Training College (NMTC) in Korle Bu on May 9, 2025, she underscored the urgent need for a consistent blood supply to support pediatric cancer patients.
Organized in partnership with NOVA Premier Ventures Limited and supported by the NMTC Students’ Representative Council, the drive aimed to replenish the National Blood Bank while directly benefiting children undergoing cancer treatment across the country.
Sarpong emphasized that the lack of readily available blood remains one of the biggest hurdles in cancer care.
Through collaboration with the National Blood Bank, her organization ensures that children receive transfusions without facing delays or bureaucratic barriers.
She praised NOVA Premier Ventures and the student body for their commitment, noting that efforts like these provide hope and life-saving support for families navigating the challenges of childhood cancer.
Stephanie Dede Naana, Head of Operations at NOVA Premier Ventures, shared that the initiative holds deep personal meaning.
Her late mother, founder of Soul Clinic in Ghana, died of blood cancer after struggling to access blood due to her rare blood type.
In honouring her mother’s wish to build a blood bank, Stephanie and her sister are now actively supporting national donation efforts.
She also addressed the stigma surrounding blood donation, urging the public to rise above superstitions and take action before emergencies arise.
