Van Leeuwen Ice Cream opens on Penn Station LIRR concourse
Van Leeuwen Ice Cream has opened at the LIRR concourse at Penn Station, offering another new culinary business in the burgeoning dining corridor.
Van Leeuwen joins counterparts on the concourse ranging from the tacos and burritos of Dos Toros to the iconic offerings of H&H Bagels and Raising Cane's chicken.
Van Leeuwen, based in the city, is known in part for being vegan friendly. In addition to its regular dairy ice cream, it has offerings made from coconuts, cashews and oats. It has two Long Island locations, at Roosevelt Field and in Roslyn, and shops across New York City as well as in multiple states.
The renovation to the Long Island Rail Road concourse was one of the most significant for Penn Station since the original Beaux-Arts style hub was razed in 1963 so that Madison Square Garden could be built over it. The renovation was completed in 2023.
