Ideal beach weather on Long Island this weekend - Newsday

Published 10 hours ago2 minute read

Long Island can expect temperatures in the low 80s on Saturday and Sunday, under a mix of sun and clouds, according to the National Weather Service.

Although not much widespread rainfall is expected, weather service meteorologist Dominic Ramunni said those traveling north and west of New York City could possibly see showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon either day.

“[It’s] generally a dry and relatively quiet weekend weather-wise across much of Long Island, [with] temperatures maybe just a couple of degrees below normal for this time of year," Ramunni said.

It will be slightly warmer closer to the city, with parts of Nassau County reaching the mid-80s.

Humidity is expected to add a little bit of extra heat, according to Ramunni.

There are no issues with the air quality.

There is currently a low risk for riptides on Saturday for the Atlantic beaches, and a preliminary look into Sunday shows the risk relatively low as well. Rammuni said it "could be a relatively ideal weather for beachgoers."

"If we do have a morning mist or fog around, which is possible, maybe a little bit of a slower start of the day with some low clouds hanging around at some of these beaches, but it should turn into a pretty decent afternoon," he said.

A cold front will becoming through on Monday, bringing the next chance for rainfall. Rammuni says the weather service is "still watching" the cold front as it may move west toward the city, he suggests people with outdoor plans Monday afternoon and evening monitor the forecast for possible showers and thunderstorms.

During the middle of the week, temperatures may be rise into the upper 80s, with the radar showing no significant weather events.
