Unearth the Excitement! 'The Mummy 4' Confirms Epic Return with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz After Two Decades!

Fans of "The Mummy" franchise rejoiced when Universal Pictures confirmed the return of Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz for a new film. This highly anticipated sequel is scheduled to premiere on May 19, 2028, nearly three decades after the original movie first captivated audiences in 1999.
The upcoming installment will be directed by the horror film-making collective Radio Silence, known for their work on 2024's "Abigail," which draws inspiration from 1936's "Dracula's Daughter." The screenplay will be penned by David Coggeshall, recognized for his script for "Orphan: First Kill." While specific plot details are currently under wraps, the film is reported to be a direct sequel to the 1999 original and 2001's "The Mummy Returns." Significantly, it will disregard the events of 2008's "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor." Although Fraser starred in the 2008 film, Weisz's role was recast with Maria Bello, and that particular movie was both the lowest-grossing and most poorly reviewed of the three original films.
The first film, "The Mummy," released on April 16, 1999, introduced audiences to Cairo librarian Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz), her brother Jonathan (John Hannah), and adventurer Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser). In 1926, their expedition to discover the fabled lost Egyptian city of the dead, Hamunaptra, inadvertently leads to the awakening of Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo), a rogue Egyptian priest who was mummified alive thousands of years prior. Alongside Ardeth Bey (Oded Fehr), a member of an ancient order sworn to protect Hamunaptra's secrets, they must race against a rival team led by Rick's treacherous ex-comrade Beni (Kevin J. O'Connor) to return Imhotep to his eternal rest before he can wield the power of a god. Directed and written by Stephen Sommers, the PG-13 adventure, action, fantasy film had a runtime of 124 minutes and was produced by James Jacks and Sean Daniel.
In the sequel, "The Mummy Returns," Rick and Evelyn are married and have a young son named Alex (Freddie Boath). They, along with Jonathan and Bey, soon become entangled in a new conspiracy orchestrated by the resurrected Imhotep and his reincarnated lover Meela Nais (Patricia Velásquez) to unleash the power of the ancient Scorpion King (Dwayne Johnson).
It is important to note that this new Fraser-Weisz "Mummy" film is entirely unrelated to another "The Mummy" project, which is being directed by "Evil Dead Rise" director Lee Cronin and is set for release by New Line Cinema in April, starring Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, and May Calamawy.
Fans are encouraged to stay tuned to Collider for further updates on Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz's highly anticipated return to "The Mummy" franchise.
