UK E-Visa Revolutionizes Travel for Nigerians Starting February 25!

The UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) is implementing a significant transformation to a fully digital border system, specifically impacting Nigerian travellers. From February 25, 2026, all Nigerian nationals applying for a UK Visit visa will receive an eVisa, marking a departure from the traditional physical vignette (sticker) placed in passports. This modernization initiative means travellers will securely access their visa electronically through their personal UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account, streamlining a crucial part of the UK's visa process.

Despite this shift in how visas are issued, the core application requirements for Nigerian nationals remain unchanged. Applicants will continue to follow the standard procedure: applying as usual, attending a Visa Application Centre to provide their necessary biometric information, and fulfilling all existing eligibility criteria. The key difference lies solely in the method of visa issuance, transitioning from a physical sticker to a secure digital record of one's immigration status. For Nigerians who currently hold a valid vignette sticker, no immediate action is required; their physical visa will remain valid until its expiration or until a replacement is necessary.

This move to eVisas offers several advantages for Nigerian travellers. Among the benefits are quicker passport returns, the convenience of managing immigration status online at any time and from any location, and enhanced security, as eVisas are immune to loss, theft, or tampering. British Deputy High Commissioner in Abuja, Mrs. Gill Lever, welcomed this transition, emphasizing the UK's commitment to simplifying travel for Nigerians, making the visa process more secure, and reducing reliance on paper documentation. The UK looks forward to continuing to welcome Nigerian visitors, students, and workers.

Upon visa approval, applicants will be required to create a free UKVI account to gain access to their eVisa. For comprehensive information regarding eVisas, individuals can visit www.gov.uk/eVisa.
