Trump Surveys Texas Flood Damage With 120 Dead, 160 Missing

Published 8 hours ago1 minute read

United States President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump yesterday visited flood-ravaged central Texas, where 120 people were killed last weekend and 161 are missing.

The BBC reports that at a roundtable, Trump said he had never seen devastation like this before and described the Guadalupe River as becoming a “monster”.

Their visit came as questions mounted over the response from authorities, and what warnings residents received.

Last weekend, deadly storms ravaged central Texas, with several months’ worth of rain in a few hours. River levels rose, submerging homes, roads and cars

First lady Melania Trump joined the president in offering her condolences.

“My deepest sympathy to all of the parents who lost beautiful young souls,” she said, “We are grieving with you. Our nation is grieving with you.”

She said she just met families of the victims, and they hugged and prayed together. She said one of the family members gave her a bracelet from Camp Mystic which she showed to the camera.

“I will be back, I promised them,” she said.
