PORTLAND (WGME) -- There were many unfortunate scenes in Massachusetts on Thursday morning from the flooding rains that passed through the area.

These downpours lasted for hours, making some roads impassable. Additionally, water rescues had to take place.

The heavy rain and storms formed along a stalled frontal boundary that set up throughout the area.

Here’s a look at the areas that were most impacted.

Notice the highest totals were found in northeast Connecticut and south of the Mass Pike, in particular, just south of Boston.

Rainfall totals in the area ranged from three inches to more than 5".

5.18” fell in Weymouth, just under five inches in Randolph and Hingham.

And many spots were in the three to four inch range.

Keep in mind, it only takes six inches of water to sweep away a person.

12” can carry away a small car, and 18” to 24” can take away a larger vehicle.

Here’s what to do in a flash flood warning.

Get to higher ground as soon as possible, do not walk or drive in those higher waters, and of course be very cautious.

Flash flooding can happen very quickly, so if your area is warned, you’ll want to follow this advice.
