Trump meets King Abdullah of Jordan at White House
US President Donald Trump welcomed King Abdullah of Jordan to the White House on Tuesday. The meeting follows repeated claims by Trump that the US should "take over" the Gaza Strip and resettle Palestinians elsewhere.
Speaking to reporters, Trump repeated his remark about long-term US ownership and redevelopment of the Gaza Strip. He said, "A lot of jobs are going to be created for the people in the Middle East."
Officials in Jordan have rejected any plans to resettle Palestinians there, and the king reiterated that stance.
However, he made a different kind of offer to help those in need. King Abdullah said, "One of the things that we can do right away is take 2,000 children that are either cancer children or in very ill state to Jordan as quickly as possible."
He added that he will wait to hear about plans from Egypt, which Trump has been urging to accept resettled Palestinians.
King Abdullah is the third foreign leader to meet Trump at the White House since the start of the US president's second term. He follows Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru.
