Transfer Blockbusters: Spurs Snag Eze, Liverpool Eyes Record Isak Deal Amidst Newcastle Fury

The summer transfer window is heating up across the Premier League, with clubs making significant moves to bolster their squads ahead of the new season. Among the most notable developments, Tottenham Hotspur has successfully reached an agreement with Crystal Palace for the highly-rated Eberechi Eze, while a major dispute has erupted between Alexander Isak and Newcastle United, attracting strong interest from Liverpool.
Tottenham's pursuit of Eberechi Eze has culminated in a breakthrough, with the North London club agreeing to a deal worth just over £60 million for the 27-year-old midfielder. SunSport understands that Spurs will pay an initial £30 million upfront, with the remaining sum to be paid in installments. This upfront payment is expected to assist Crystal Palace in securing a replacement for their influential talisman. Eze emerged as a primary target for Tottenham following a pre-season ACL injury sustained by James Maddison, highlighting the urgency of the acquisition. Despite talks last week, Eze played in Crystal Palace's 0-0 Premier League opener against Chelsea, where a brilliant free-kick was controversially disallowed. However, his participation in Thursday night's Conference League clash with Fredrikstad now appears unlikely. Crystal Palace has already identified potential successors, with Leicester's Bilal El Khannouss and Club Brugge's Chris Tzolis reportedly on their radar. Eze is set to become Tottenham's sixth signing of a busy transfer window, following the permanent conversion of initial loans for Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel, a £5 million swoop for Japanese centre-back Kota Takai, a £55 million acquisition of West Ham star Mohammed Kudus, and a season-long loan deal for Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich. Tottenham's summer spending spree may not be over, as they remain interested in Manchester City winger Savinho, with Monaco's Maghnes Akliouche emerging as an alternative option.
Meanwhile, a high-stakes transfer saga is unfolding around Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak. Liverpool has reportedly sanctioned a British record £130 million move for the Swedish international, signalling their strong intent. Isak, 25, recently released a bombshell statement via social media, publicly asserting that his "relationship can't continue" with Newcastle and that "trust has been lost" between him and the club. He claimed it would be "in the best interests of everyone" if he were to depart. The striker has been notably absent from Newcastle's pre-season training camp and Asian tour, having informed officials of his desire to leave. In his statement, Isak alleged that "promises were made" by the club's former co-owners, Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi, concerning a pay rise that failed to materialize. His current contract, worth £130,000 a week, still has four years remaining. Despite Newcastle's apparent willingness to potentially exceed their £150,000-a-week pay ceiling to make him their highest-paid player, Isak's relationship with the club appears severely fractured. Newcastle United swiftly responded to Isak's public statement, expressing disappointment and vehemently denying that any commitment was ever made for him to leave this summer. The club emphasized that Isak remains under contract and reiterated their stance that he will not be sold unless it is "in the best interests" of Newcastle United, the team, and its supporters. They stated that the conditions for a sale this summer have not transpired and are not foreseen to be met. Liverpool had previously seen a £110 million bid for Isak rejected earlier this month and is expected to table their new £130 million offer in the coming days, which, if accepted, would push their summer spending beyond the £400 million mark.
Beyond these two major narratives, other significant transfers are also making headlines. Chelsea is reportedly making progress in their pursuit of Alejandro Garnacho. Liverpool, in addition to their pursuit of Isak, is also pushing to complete a £35 million deal for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi before the transfer window closes. The reigning Premier League champions have already invested heavily this summer, bringing in talents such as Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, and young centre-back Giovanni Leoni, as they aim to retain their title and compete for further silverware in the upcoming season.
