Tragedy Strikes: Nurse Killed in Fatal Worawora-Abotoase Road Crash

A tragic and fatal road accident has occurred on the Worawora–Abotoase Highway within the Biakoye District of the Oti Region, claiming the life of a male staff nurse. The deceased, identified only as Alidu, was a dedicated staff nurse at the Worawora Government Hospital. The unfortunate incident took place on Monday, September 16, 2025, between 1930 hours and 2000 hrs, in the vicinity of Dzogbekope and Tapa Amanfrom.

Reports indicate that Alidu was on his way from Tapa Abotoase to Worawora on his motorbike to commence his night duty when the collision happened. Eyewitnesses recounted that the nurse attempted to overtake a VIP bus while navigating a sharp curve. During this maneuver, his motorcycle swerved directly into the path of an oncoming commercial taxi, resulting in a severe head-on collision. The impact was so profound that Alidu reportedly died instantly at the scene of the accident.

Sergeant Avevor Charles, a police officer who was also en route to his night duty at Apesokubi, arrived at the tragic scene shortly after the crash. He promptly alerted the Tapa Abotoase Police Command, who swiftly responded to the emergency. The taxi driver, who was the sole occupant of his vehicle, sustained minor injuries to his arms and face. He was subsequently transported to the Abotoase Health Centre for medical attention.

Following the necessary procedures, Alidu’s remains were conveyed to the Worawora Government Hospital morgue. The news of this devastating loss sent shockwaves throughout the local community, prompting relatives of the deceased to travel from Accra and various parts of northern Ghana to Tapa Abotoase to oversee the burial arrangements. In adherence to Islamic tradition, the late nurse was laid to rest at the Tapa Abotoase cemetery, a somber occasion marked by profound grief and sorrow.

While officers of the Ghana Police Service have refrained from immediate public comment on the incident, the case remains an active investigation under the jurisdiction of the Tapa Abotoase Police Command.
