Tragedy Strikes: Lagos Festac DPO Dies After Surgery

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Ngbaronye, who served as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division. CSP Ngbaronye passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the Mayriamville Medical Centre in Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos, following a surgical procedure.

The Command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, announced her demise in a statement, expressing deep sorrow and describing her passing as a significant loss. She highlighted CSP Ngbaronye’s exemplary career, noting her as a disciplined, upright officer who consistently demonstrated exceptional professionalism, integrity, and dedication to duty. Her commitment extended to fostering positive police-public relations through her humane and friendly approach to policing. The entire Command was reportedly shocked by her unexpected death, as she was known for never being found wanting in the discharge of her responsibilities.

Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, echoed the sentiment of irreparable loss. On behalf of all officers and men of the Command, he extended heartfelt condolences to CSP Ngbaronye’s family, including her aged mother. CP Jimoh personally contacted her husband and elder brother, who is a priest, to convey the Command’s sympathies and offer support during this difficult time.

Details regarding her burial arrangements are expected to be announced at a later date, as the Command continues to mourn the loss of a revered officer and prays for her soul to rest in peace.
