Tragic Killing of E-Hailing Driver Satlat Sparks Public Plea for Repatriation Aid

The horrific murder of e-hailing driver Satlat has shocked South Africa, raising serious concerns about driver safety across ride-hailing services. Satlat was reportedly strangled by two passengers during a trip, an attack captured in a viral dashcam video.
Police reports indicate that the suspects attacked Satlat mid-journey, later dumping his body and hijacking his vehicle. Both his remains and the stolen car were recovered in Atteridgeville, prompting a thorough investigation. Authorities have confirmed the arrest of two suspects, with inquiries ongoing.
Satlat’s family has expressed profound grief over the tragedy. Speaking to eNCA, his uncle said, “We are in deep pain. Isaac was a young man with dreams,” adding that Satlat came to South Africa to work hard and build a better future for himself and his family back home.
Amid their mourning, the family has issued a heartfelt plea to the public and the Nigerian community to help fund the repatriation of Satlat’s body. His uncle emphasized, “We are asking for support to take him back home to Nigeria so he can be buried with dignity. It is not easy for the family to carry this burden alone.”
This tragic incident has reignited discussions on the urgent need for stronger protections for e-hailing drivers operating across South Africa, highlighting the vulnerabilities of frontline workers in the ride-hailing industry.
