Two-time world boxing champion Zolani Tete has tragically passed away after being fatally shot in an ambush outside his home in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, South Africa. The 37-year-old former champion was attacked on Friday at approximately 6:30 PM while returning from the gym with a 27-year-old woman in his vehicle. According to Eastern Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, two armed suspects opened fire on Tete’s vehicle, forcing him to drive into his yard in an attempt to escape the barrage of bullets. He unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at the scene and was declared deceased.
The condition of the female passenger involved in the incident has not been disclosed by authorities. As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the identities of the suspects remain unknown.
