Toronto Raptors Part Ways With Masai Ujiri
The Toronto Raptors are moving on from their vice chairman and president Masai Ujiri. Shams Charania of ESPN broke the story, citing sources.
Ujiri’s contract, extended in 2021 at a reported $15 million per year plus incentives, was set to expire in 2026. He is widely credited for a vital role in turning the Raptors franchise into a competitor after joining the club in 2013 as executive vice president and general manager. His highpoint in Toronto culminated in the 2019 NBA championship. In recent years the club’s fortunes have soured, missing the playoffs this past season for the third season in a row. Toronto finished the 2024-25 season with a 30-52 record, landing them in 11th place in the East.
Mark Stein reported in May that the Atlanta Hawks have been interested in hiring Ujiri as their president of basketball operations. The Hawks have not yet hired anyone in that role, so it’s possible Atlanta could still be a landing spot Ujiri.
Charania has cited sources as saying that the Raptors will conduct a full search for a new president of basketball operations.
