: Flamboyant city lawyers Danstan Omari and Duncan Okatch have been ranked among the best litigation lawyers in 2025.

The ranking is based on the annual Top Litigation Lawyers in Kenya 2025 edition. In the latest ranking, the list compiled by advocate Paul Musyimi listed 530 lawyers including Dr Elisha Ongoya and Dr Muthomi Thiankolu, who played a key role in the highly publicised impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua as deputy president.

Others on the list are Cecil Miller, Kioko kilukumi, George Oraro and Paul Muite.

“We research and list the lawyers we believe are the top litigation lawyers in Kenya at the given time,” Musyimi, who has published the list of the top lawyers since 2022, told .

“This year, we have listed 530 lawyers varying from lawyers who have practiced law since 1970 like Dr. John Khaminwa and Amos Wako to lawyers who have practiced law for at least 3 years,” he added.

For the last few years, Omari and Okatch have been part of several high-profile and controversial cases.

Okatch, a youthful lawyer, has represented Nairobi Governor Johnstone Sakaja, Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, President William Ruto and former Cabinet minister Raphael Tuju.

He also represented the Nairobi county government in the Dishi Na County case, where applicants sought to stop the ambitious school feeding program.

On the other hand, Omari has in the recent years represented prominent personalities like Pastor Ezekiel Odero, businessman Khalif Kairo and former Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa.

The city lawyer has attracted both love and hate in equal measure. Musyimi says that lawyers must also win cases in the court of public opinion.

"Danstan Omari is known for his exceptional ability to manage both legal representation and reputation risk in high-stakes, controversial cases. Clients trust him not only for his courtroom skills but also for his expertise in handling public relations, a crucial aspect of modern dispute resolution,” the advocate explained.

“Omari excels in both winning in court and shaping public opinion, making him a powerful force in the legal field,” he added.

The publication also lists the top real estate and finance lawyers and top commercial lawyers.

In Kenya, there are at least 22,000 practicing advocates, most of whom are members of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).

previously listed some of Kenya's top lawyers who own multi-million houses.

Among those featured in the list are James Orengo who is also the Siaya governor and Donald Kipkorir.

Law is ranked among one of the highest-paying jobs in Kenya.
