Federal Government Focuses on Administration and Regional Investment

The federal government has urged the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to prioritize strategic investment and the timely delivery of projects in the North East region to drive national development. Minister of Regional Development, Engr Abubakar Momoh, emphasized the importance of strategic investment to prevent fund depreciation and project abandonment during an interactive session with the NEDC management and board in Abuja.
Momoh suggested the NEDC consider establishing an investment corporation to grow its funds over time. He also appealed to the NEDC to focus on initiating and completing projects within set timeframes, assuring the ministry’s support for the commission’s success. He stressed that the ministry would share credit for the NEDC’s successes but would also be held accountable for its failures.
The minister further encouraged the commission to concentrate on high-impact projects to boost its credibility and align with the administration’s eight priority areas. Mohammed Alkali, the MD/CEO of NEDC, affirmed the commission's commitment to working in accordance with its master plan, which includes recovery and stabilisation, resettlement, expansion, and sustainable growth. NEDC chairman, Paul Tarfa, also reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to working closely with the Ministry of Regional Development in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing coordination and strategic alignment for the successful delivery of their mandate.
