But, arguably his best action film to date, George Miller's , is about to drive onto a new streaming home. Before it was released, Fury Road was incredibly contentious among long-time fans of the Mad Max franchise; after all, everyone hates a reboot. But the film took the action world by storm, winning multiple Oscars and securing Tom Hardy's place as an action leading man, resulting in projects like MobLand and Havoc. While the future of the Mad Max franchise is undecided, fans can soon enjoy one of the best films in the franchise on a new streaming platform this month.

Mad Max: Fury Road will stream on Netflix this July. The film will be available to US subscribers on July 9. George Miller directed the film, which he co-wrote with Brendan McCarthy and Nick Lathouris. Alongside Hardy as the eponymous Max Rockatansky, the film also starred Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz, Hugh Keays-Byrne, and Josh Helman. Fury Road was a major hit with fans and critics. The film holds a near-perfect 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, with an 86% audience score. Fury Road boasts a similarly impressive 8.1 rating on IMDb, ranking it as the 182nd highest-rated movie on the platform. On top of all that, the film won 6 Oscars in 2016, as well as being nominated for Best Motion Picture of the Year.

The entire film is one gigantic car chase that never lets up on the intense, practical action.

Mad Max: Fury Road was released in theaters in 2015. It then took George Miller nine years to get back in the driving seat for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which was released in 2024. The film cast Anya Taylor-Joy as a young Furiosa, detailing her time as a child of the Green Place and her many years as a prisoner of another wasteland warlord, Dementus (Chris Hemsworth).

During the build-up to Furiosa's release last year, George Miller revealed that he had plans for several more Mad Max films, including a Max prequel movie. However, Furiosa underperformed at the box office and earned middling reviews from critics. As a result, Miller's plans for the future of Mad Max were thrown up in the air. It's currently uncertain whether Warner Bros. will let George Miller get behind the wheel of another Mad Max film, or if Rockatansky's time in the wasteland has come to an end.
