Tinubu Appoints Six Chief Medical Directors for Federal Hospitals

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made significant appointments in the healthcare sector, naming six Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) for federal government-owned hospitals across Nigeria. These appointments span hospitals in Akure, Gombe, Azare, Lafia, Maiduguri, and Kafanchan, signaling the administration's focus on strengthening healthcare infrastructure and leadership.

Key Appointments and Reappointments:

Prof. Olusegun Sylvester Ojo has been appointed as the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Akure, Ondo State. Prof. Ojo brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as the pioneer Chief Medical Director of the Ondo State Specialist Hospital.

Prof. Yusuf Mohammed Abdullahi has been reappointed as the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe. His reappointment follows an outstanding first term, highlighting his exceptional leadership and significant contributions to the hospital's development. His second and final term commenced on September 5, 2024.

Dr. Dauda Abubakar Katagum, who previously served as the Acting Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Azare, Bauchi State, has now been confirmed as the substantive CMD. His tenure began on December 6, 2024.

Dr. Ikrama Hassan has been appointed as the Chief Medical Director of the newly upgraded Federal Teaching Hospital in Lafia, Nasarawa State. Dr. Hassan, a consultant physician, previously held the position of Medical Director at the Dalhatu Ibrahim Arab Specialist Hospital before its elevation to a teaching hospital.

Dr. Ali Mohammed Ramat, a renowned Consultant Orthopaedic and Spine Surgeon, has been appointed as the Chief Medical Director of the newly established National Orthopaedic Hospital in Maiduguri, Borno State. This appointment is particularly significant given the specialized nature of the hospital and the expertise Dr. Ramat brings to the role.

Dr. Haruna Abubakar Shehu, a Consultant Family Physician, has been appointed as the Chief Medical Director of the newly established Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.

All appointments are for a term of four years, effective from the respective dates of assumption of office.
