Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez created Apple TV+’s satirical comedy series The Studio. The show follows a newly appointed head of the film production company trying his best to save the floundering company.

One of the biggest challenges he faces is juggling corporate demands with creative ambitions as they try to keep movies relevant.

The Studio holds an incredible score of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising the show. Critics have noted that the satirical comedy is one of the smartest shows that premiered in 2025 till now and appreciated Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s partnership for creating a clever show that goes on to say something about the changing landscape of making movies.

The Studio has some of the most striking guest appearances, and one such appearance happens in episode 4.

One of the highly appreciated satirical comedy series on Apple TV+ is Seth Rogen’s The Studio, which follows the head of a film production studio trying his best to save the company. Rogen plays Matt Remick, the head of the production who not only wants to save the company but also wants to make good movies according to the needs of the industry.

In episode 4 of the show The Missing Reel, Matt Remick faces yet another challenge of the missing reel from a neo-noir detective movie, Rolling Blackout, directed by none other than Olivia Wilde.

It stars Zac Efron, and after the budget for the movie goes slightly up, Remick scraps the wrap-up part to save money. But to his misery, a reel containing an important scene goes missing, and he takes it upon himself to locate it to avoid reshooting.

The head of the film production does not report the missing reel because that would have had an insurance payout covering the reshoot, but the premiums would increase.

After finding cash in Zac Efron’s trailer, Matt Remick and Sal, played by Ike Barinholtz, suspect him and believe that he paid someone to steal the reel. However, his intention of doing so was not stated. As it turns out, it’s the cash that everyone from the set chipped in to throw a secret wrap party for the cast, but Remick and Wilde weren’t invited.

At the party, Remick and Sal noticed that the people who were dancing had the same fake wrist tattoo because they played extras in the movie. Sal instantly realizes that the alcohol they smelled on Olivia Wilde was rubbing alcohol, which she had to use to remove her tattoo after her cameo as a part of the gang. Zac Efron confesses that Olivia Wilde wasn’t happy with a scene in the movie, which was filmed in the missing reel.

They conclude that the director stole the reel, and she confesses after she is confronted near the Hollywood Sign.

Olivia Wilde explained that she stole the reel so that she could reshoot the scene in the reel, but she didn’t destroy the reel as her cameo was in it too. She told Remick that she was proud of her cameo and wanted to cherish it. But in a surprise change of events, the reel rolls downhill, and Matt Remick sells off his car to Efron to pay for the reshoot.

Episode 4 perfectly pokes at the demanding studio heads who tend to make budget cuts while filming, but would give themselves a huge bonus. The episode is a satire for directors as well, who try to find ways to film under the given budget, but sometimes go overboard. Fans enjoyed the episode, stating that it’s one of the funniest episodes they’ve seen so far, and they wish she had had more screen time.

The Studio goes on to nail its satire on the entertainment industry, and in episode four, it stars Olivia Wilde and Zac Efron as themselves in cameo roles. The actor and actress are praised for not only poking fun at themselves but also giving an exceptional performance on-screen. Wilde’s portrayal of a director who, in the episode, is rumored to be hard to work with mirrors the rumors that surrounded her directorial feature Don’t Worry Darling.

At the time of its release, rumors about Wilde and actress Florence Pugh not getting along surrounded the movie.

Whether the rumors of Wilde and Florence Pugh’s cold war were true or not, no one knows, but she very boldly portrays herself wearing the same shoe for The Studio. In the episode, she was labeled as the director who would go to lengths to film a scene because she believes that she’s making a masterpiece.

In all of this satire, the characters joke throughout the episode and rip off Chinatown starring Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway. Wilde jokes, ‘Good artists borrow, great artists steal.’ Co-creator Evan Goldberg shared with TV Insider,

We had to meet her [Olivia Wilde] and convince her to do it and work on the character with her.

In speaking to IndieWire, Seth Rogen was asked about the cameos on the show, to which he said that they were lucky, adding that they wrote themselves into very specific corners with a lot of the roles. He added that for Olivia Wilde’s cameo, there are four other people and Wilde who could play that part, and they are glad they went with the first.
