The Mummy 4: Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz Back Together on Set!

The Mummy franchise provided a captivating gateway for many millennials into the ancient Egyptian world of mummies and curses, largely thanks to the electric on-screen pairing of Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. Their undeniable chemistry made the world of adventurers and resurrected priests feel both believable and exciting, establishing the series as a beloved cultural touchstone.

Brendan Fraser, after a period away from the spotlight, made a triumphant return to screens a couple of years ago with his heart-wrenching, Oscar-winning performance in "The Whale." Following this, he has taken on a variety of roles, including a bombastic, corrupt defense lawyer in Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-winning "Killers of the Flower Moon," a comedic turn in "Brothers," and an appearance in the historical D-Day thriller "Pressure," which garnered praise from fans. Despite his illustrious filmography, "The Mummy" remains his most beloved project among many fans.

Exciting news for fans, as a fourth movie is now officially in the works. Titled "The Mummy: Book of the Dead," this new installment is set for a 2028 release, nearly 30 years after the original film first graced screens in 1999. The project will be helmed by the horror film-making collective Radio Silence, known for their work on 2024's "Abigail," with Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin directing. The script is penned by David Coggeshall, who previously wrote "Orphan: First Kill."

Crucially, "The Mummy: Book of the Dead" is designed to pick up directly after the events of "The Mummy" and "The Mummy Returns." The film will intentionally disregard the events of 2008's "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," a decision that is widely supported given its status as the lowest-grossing and most poorly reviewed of the first three films, and notably, it did not feature Rachel Weisz.

Recent images circulating on social media have confirmed the long-awaited reunion of Brendan Fraser as Rick O'Connell and Rachel Weisz as Evelyn Carnahan. After initial theories based on separate sightings, new photos show the duo all smiles, reaffirming that "Evie and Rick seem to be going strong." Fans are thrilled to see them together again, as their chemistry has always been considered the beating heart of the franchise. The confirmed cast also includes John Hannah as Jonathan Carnahan and Arnold Vosloo as Imhotep.

The original "The Mummy" introduced us to Evelyn, a curious librarian, and Rick, an intrepid adventurer, who, alongside Evelyn's brother Jonathan, inadvertently awakened the ancient mummy Imhotep during an archaeological dig at Hamunaptra. "The Mummy Returns" saw Rick and Evie embroiled in another crisis when Imhotep was resurrected once more by a cult, leading to the kidnapping of their son. The upcoming "The Mummy: Book of the Dead" will delve into where this beloved family finds themselves decades after these epic adventures. The film is scheduled to haunt theaters starting May 19, 2028.
