The Monster of Florence Series Release Details

Netflix is set to release "The Monster of Florence" on October 22, 2025, a highly anticipated four-part limited series that delves into one of Italy's most unsettling and enduring criminal mysteries. This true-crime saga revisits the terrifying spree of an elusive serial killer, known as "The Monster" or "Il Mostro," who struck fear into Florence and its neighboring areas for nearly two decades, from the late 1960s to the mid-1980s. The killer committed eight horrific double murders, consistently preying on couples parked in secluded places around Florence, always using the same weapon: a .22 caliber Beretta.
The chilling crimes triggered one of Italy’s most prolonged and intricate investigations, leaving both authorities and citizens on edge. Rooted in real events, authentic testimonies, and detailed court records, "The Monster of Florence" promises a deep exploration of this infamous unsolved case. The series aims to captivate true-crime fans by immersing viewers in this haunting saga, which is being described as one of the longest investigations into the most brutal serial killings in Italian history.
The production brings together a seasoned team, with acclaimed Italian genre specialist Stefano Sollima at the helm as director. Sollima, known for his gritty TV hit "Gomorrah" and films like "Sicario: Day of the Soldado" and "Without Remorse," spent over a year meticulously researching the still-unsolved case. He reunites with writer Leonardo Fasoli and renowned Italian cinematographer Paolo Carnera, both of whom previously collaborated with Sollima on "Gomorrah" and "ZeroZeroZero." The series was created by Leonardo Fasoli and Stefano Sollima, and produced under Fremantle-owned The Apartment alongside Sollima’s own banner, AlterEgo. The production team also includes Lorenzo Mieli, Sollima himself, and Gina Gardini.
Filmed predominantly on location, "The Monster of Florence" ensures an authentic backdrop to its unsettling narrative. Netflix has also unveiled the Italian cast for the series, which features Marco Bullitta, Valentino Mannias, Francesca Olia, Liliana Bottone, Giacomo Fadda, Antonio Tintis, and Giordano Mannu. This highly anticipated series is expected to provide a comprehensive and compelling account of a dark chapter in Italian criminal history, offering a meticulous synthesis of facts surrounding the elusive serial killer.
