The UK is in the grip of the third heatwave of the year, with temperatures reaching a scorching 34.7C in parts of the West Midlands on Friday evening.

Now, the UK Health Security Agency has issued an Amber Heat Health Warning for the south of England, East Anglia, and the Midlands for the entire weekend, ending at 9.00am on Monday (14th July).

Dr Agostinho Sousa, Head of Extreme Events and Health Protection at UKHSA, said: “This weekend we expect to see another period of hot weather, with the temperature predicted to rise above 30°C across most regions of England.

“Exposure to these temperatures can result in serious health outcomes across the population so it is important that everyone takes sensible precautions while enjoying the sun.

“Older adults or those with pre-existing health conditions are particularly at risk, so if you have friends, family or neighbours who are more vulnerable to these conditions, it is important to check in on them and ensure they are aware of the forecasts and are following the necessary advice.”

South East Water and Yorkshire Water have issued hosepipe bans to around seven million customers, meaning that they’re unable to use water for activities like filling up paddling pools, watering the garden, or washing their cars.

Take care if you're out and about this weekend.
