This revelation casts new light on the unexpected cancellation of the Marvel series, suggesting that viewer engagement was not the primary issue.
Streamers meticulously track viewer retention rates – the percentage of viewers who continue watching a show – as a key indicator of its success and potential for renewal. While each platform has its own internal metrics, Disney+ typically considers a 36% retention rate as its "likely renewal floor," with a "safe zone" for renewal generally falling around 48%. Remarkably, the Luminate study indicated that "Wonder Man" achieved a 52% retention rate, significantly exceeding both these benchmarks.
Given these strong viewership numbers, the report suggests that the cancellation of "Wonder Man" was likely influenced by other factors, such as a potential "glut of Marvel shows" on the platform, rather than a lack of audience interest.
