A major police investigation spanning eight agonising days concluded with immense relief as 13-year-old Lillia, who had disappeared from her Bolton home, was found safe and well in Manchester city centre on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed her safe return tonight, bringing an end to a widespread search operation and the anguish of her family.
Lillia was last seen on Ainsworth Lane in Bolton on Friday, September 11, 2026, prompting a significant police investigation. Over the next few days, numerous sightings of the teenager were reported, and police issued multiple appeals for public assistance. Her movements were tracked via CCTV, showing her travelling on buses across Greater Manchester. The first confirmed sighting after she went missing was on Saturday, September 12, when she boarded the 247 bus at the Trafford Centre. Subsequently, she was seen entering McDonald's on Market Street in Piccadilly Gardens around 8:20 PM on Sunday, September 13. Her last two confirmed sightings were on Monday, September 14, first getting on the number 36 bus from Salford around 10:00 AM, and then walking through Manchester Piccadilly bus station at 10:36 AM that same morning.
As the search intensified, police stepped up their efforts considerably. On Saturday, hundreds of leaflets displaying Lillia's photo were distributed in the city centre, and a large advertising hoarding and an advertising van were deployed in Piccadilly Gardens, a key location in the investigation. The crucial role of the media was also highlighted, with the sharing of appeals, pictures, and a press conference featuring Lillia's mum reaching a wide audience.
