The Taraba State House of Assembly has definitively dismissed widespread rumours concerning an alleged plot to impeach the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Aminu Alkali. The legislative body also provided a reassuring update on Alkali’s health, confirming his steady recovery from an undisclosed illness. Addressing journalists in Jalingo, the state capital, Nelson C. Len, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, unequivocally stated that the 24-member Assembly harbors no intentions of replacing Alkali with the current Deputy Speaker or any other individual.

Len characterised the circulating rumours as entirely baseless and misleading, urging the public to disregard any claims suggesting the Assembly is contemplating the removal of the deputy governor from office. He drew a clear distinction regarding Alkali's health situation, asserting that it is in no way comparable to the tragic circumstances of the late former Governor Danbaba Suntai, who suffered fatal injuries in a plane crash. According to Len, Alhaji Alkali is responding positively to treatment and is recuperating well.

Furthermore, Len clarified that the House has not constituted any medical panel to assess Alkali’s health, strongly insisting that there is no justification for such an action at this time. Deputy Governor Alkali has been notably absent from public functions for more than nine months due to his illness. He was recently flown back to Nigeria from Egypt and is currently receiving medical care at a hospital in Abuja. His prolonged absence had previously fueled significant speculation about his condition and sparked concerns over a potential leadership vacuum within the state.

Despite these concerns, the Taraba State House of Assembly has firmly reiterated that there is no constitutional crisis in the state. The Assembly maintains that the leadership of Taraba State remains stable and fully functional, providing a strong reassurance to its citizens amidst the earlier speculation.
