OSGF Denies Akume Sack Rumours Amid Tinubu's Support

The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has vehemently debunked widespread rumours circulating online and in some media outlets concerning the alleged removal of Senator George Akume, CON, from his position as Secretary to the Government of the Federation. In a statement issued on Sunday and Saturday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations for the OSGF, the reports were unequivocally described as “false, misleading, entirely baseless, and lacking any basis in fact.”
The OSGF emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, harbors no intention whatsoever of removing Senator Akume. The claims were further characterized as “a fabrication and a figment of the imagination of mischief makers,” suggesting they are deliberate attempts to disinform and misinform the public. The office reiterated that President Tinubu “reposes unwavering confidence” in Senator Akume’s capacity to diligently discharge his statutory obligations, particularly in formulating and implementing the policies and programmes central to the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Both the OSGF and the presidency, through an earlier statement from Chief Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, have aligned in refuting these claims. The statements underscored that spreading unverified or intentionally false narratives not only undermines public trust but also poses a significant threat to the integrity of national institutions. The public, media organizations, and digital platforms have been urged to disregard these baseless rumours and to prioritize the proper verification of information before dissemination.
