Sam Larry Denies Assaulting Mohbad

Music promoter Samson ‘Sam Larry’ Eletu has finally addressed the allegations linking him to the late singer Ilerioluwa ‘Mohbad’ Aloba, a former signee of his associate Abdulazeez ‘Naira Marley’ Fashola. Following Mohbad’s death, both Sam Larry and Naira Marley faced intense public scrutiny and accusations regarding their alleged roles in the singer’s demise. They voluntarily submitted themselves to the Lagos State Police Command headquarters for interrogation, leading to several days of detention before their release on bail. Since then, they have consistently attended questioning sessions and participated in the coroner’s inquest.

In February, a Magistrate Court in Sabo, Yaba, Lagos, ruled that neither Sam Larry nor Naira Marley was implicated in Mohbad’s death. However, Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, challenged this decision, and a Lagos High Court has scheduled a hearing on the matter for 2 July.

Maintaining his innocence, Sam Larry shared his side of the story in a recent interview with activist Martin ‘VeryDarkMan (VDM)’ Otse, posted on YouTube. He vehemently denied ever touching or attempting to assault Mohbad. Addressing a viral video that showed him confronting Mohbad at a beach, Sam Larry clarified that the situation was misinterpreted. He explained that he had gone to the beach to buy something for his child when he unexpectedly saw Mohbad and others shooting a video. He approached Mohbad to demand a refund for a performance the singer allegedly failed to honor, stating, “I didn’t threaten Mohbad with boys. I only went to the beach to buy something for my child. When I got there, I saw Mohbad and others shooting a video, so I approached them, and some of the beach boys followed me. When I reached where the video was being shot, I told Mohbad he would not leave if he didn’t pay the money he owed me.” He added that singer Zlatan Ibile intervened, holding him back and telling him he had “passed that level,” which diffused the situation. Sam Larry asserted, “Nobody touched Mohbad. Zlatan is my witness because he was there. I’ve never touched Mohbad all my life.”

Sam Larry also addressed the petition Mohbad filed against him before his death, labeling it entirely false. He stated, “The police invited me because of the petition Mohbad wrote, where he falsely accused me of damaging his camera and claimed that Elegushi sent boys to kill him.” He further revealed that when he realized Mohbad was lying, he wrote a counter-petition, but Mohbad allegedly refused to honor police invitations. Sam Larry also debunked claims that Mohbad was beaten in a club. He recounted that when accusations of bullying and killing Mohbad began circulating, he reached out to Zlatan to speak publicly about the true events. However, Zlatan allegedly refused, citing a warning from his parents: “Zlatan told me his parents warned him he would vomit blood if he spoke.” Sam Larry implored Zlatan to confirm his innocence publicly and to attest that he had helped them resolve a dispute with landowners at the beach during the video shoot. He also mentioned that he had intervened when Mohbad’s car was impounded for driving against traffic on the way to the beach, stating, “Zlatan knows everything that happened at the beach.”

Regarding his whereabouts at the time of Mohbad’s death, Sam Larry confirmed he was in Dubai, while Naira Marley was in Amsterdam. He also clarified a video where he was heard saying, ‘All stations settled, no question to answer.’ He stated this video was from 2013 or 2014 when he was in Kenya, explaining that he was known as the ‘King of Settlement (KOS)’ back then, and that phrase was his usual response, completely unrelated to Mohbad’s issue.

Furthermore, Sam Larry claimed the late singer owed him N2 million. This sum, he explained, was for Mohbad’s performance at his birthday celebration in Dubai. “The time I invited him to come and perform for me was around the period of the NDLEA incident. I paid for his flight tickets, visa, and also paid for his wife and manager, but he didn’t show up in Dubai. That’s the money he owed me,” Sam Larry elaborated. While he couldn't confirm Mohbad's involvement in hard drugs, he affirmed Mohbad had money and suggested people should inquire with Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, about why he owed people. Despite the disputes, Sam Larry expressed his fondness for Mohbad, describing him as a good person whom he genuinely liked, often promoting his songs and traveling with him, facts he believes Mohbad’s wife and manager can confirm.
