OSGF denies Akume sack rumours, affirm Tinubu's support

The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has debunked circulating rumours claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has removed Senator George Akume, CON, from his position as Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

In a press statement issued on Saturday and signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, the OSGF described the report as false, baseless, and a deliberate act of misinformation by mischief makers.

“The information is entirely false, misleading, and lacks any basis in fact,” the statement read. “Mr. President has no intention of removing the SGF.”

The OSGF reaffirmed President Tinubu’s confidence in Akume’s capacity to continue discharging his duties in line with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The President reposes unwavering confidence in the capacity of the SGF to formulate and implement the policies and programmes of this administration,” it said.

It also urged members of the public, media organisations, and digital platforms to disregard the rumour and ensure proper verification of information before sharing.
“Spreading unverified or intentionally false narratives not only undermines public trust but also poses a threat to the integrity of our institutions,” the statement added.

The OSGF further aligned its position with an earlier statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, Chief Bayo Onanuga, who had similarly dismissed the claims.

“Senator Dr. George Akume, CON, remains the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” the statement concluded.
