'We Were Used And Dumped': Nigerian Actor Lalude Accuses Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu Campaign Teams Of Broken Promises | Sahara Reporters
He said they were given ₦10,000 daily for feeding, but even that stopped when the organisers noticed they were pooling the money and rotating it among themselves.
Veteran Nigerian actor Fatai Adetayo, popularly known as Lalude, has accused the campaign teams of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of using and abandoning him and his colleagues after the 2023 general elections.
In a recent interview on Behind the Fame, Lalude revealed that he and several other Yoruba actors were engaged to campaign for Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu for over a month and three weeks.
During this period, he said they were given ₦10,000 daily for feeding, a sum he believes was a fraction of what was budgeted for the campaign.
He said they were given ₦10,000 daily for feeding, but even that stopped when the organisers noticed they were pooling the money and rotating it among themselves.
Lalude stated that after the campaign ended, they didn’t receive a kobo.
“Nothing at all. Is that fair?” he asked.
The actor claimed that the arrangement was coordinated through Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo, the President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), who contacted them for the campaign.
Lalude expressed deep disappointment, stating that despite sacrificing their time and resources to support the All Progressives Congress (APC), they were abandoned without any form of appreciation or compensation.
He added that when the organisers noticed they were rotating the daily ₦10,000 among themselves to support one another, the payments were abruptly halted for two to three days.
In frustration, Lalude invoked curses in Yoruba on those whom he said benefited from their efforts but failed to honour their promises.
He declared whoever withholds what belongs to them will not prosper.
He said, "We spent one month and three weeks campaigning. During that time, the spiteful people were giving us ₦10,000 per day for feeding. Meanwhile, the money allocated for campaign activities should have been more than that, but they decided to limit us to ₦10,000 daily.
"The youths among us agreed that we should contribute the money we were given each day. Each person was expected to contribute their daily ₦10,000. However, when they noticed that we were pooling the money together, the payments suddenly stopped. For two to three days, we were not given any money at all.
"After the campaign ended, we received nothing. Not a single kobo. If we curse them, they will never escape the consequences until they die.
"We campaigned for Governor Sanwo-Olu. We also campaigned for Tinubu. Up till now, as I speak to you, we have not received any payment."
"Is that fair, in a single lifetime we are privileged to live? It was MC Oluomo who called us for the job,” he added.
When asked whether MC Oluomo paid them for the work, he said: "Alapini and I were promised payment by MC Oluomo. He told us to ask for anything we wanted. He even called someone to meet with us and said that person would come on a Thursday to give us money. But up till now, we have not received a single kobo.
"Our sweat will not be in vain. Anyone involved in withholding our payment, despite our one month and three weeks of campaigning for Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu, will never enjoy the fruits of their own labour until their death."
