Tanko Foundation Powers Youth Empowerment at Historic Duamenefa 2025 Grand Durbar

The Duamenefa Regional Tournament has been lauded as a "living model for social transformation," sparking calls for stronger partnerships between governmental bodies, civil society organizations, and the private sector to ensure the sustainability of such impactful youth-focused initiatives. This call was made by H.E. Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, Founder of the Tanko Foundation and Member of the Council of State for the Volta Region, during the Grand Finale of the 2025 edition of the tournament, held at the Dzodze Penyi Senior High School. He commended Evangelist Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe and the Duamenefa Foundation for their innovative use of sports as a powerful vehicle for peacebuilding, fostering unity, and nurturing talent across the Volta Region.
H.E. Tanko elaborated on the Tanko Foundation’s significant sponsorship, characterising it as a "purposeful and deliberate investment in human capital, community safety, and economic growth." He highlighted the tangible returns visible in "lives transformed, families lifted, and communities made more cohesive." The partnership has yielded impressive outcomes, ranging from educational scholarships and vocational training opportunities to improved healthcare services and enhanced sports prospects. Concrete examples include players from communities like Ave Xevi now competing professionally in Europe, over a hundred young individuals benefiting from educational support, renovated hospital wards, and empowered single parents.
The Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation and Chief Executive Officer of Fafa FM, Mr. Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe, further illuminated the foundation's journey, achievements, and persistent challenges, underscoring the indispensable role of partnerships in achieving community transformation. Speaking at the Eduamenefa Grand Durbar in Dzodze, Mr. Evortepe revealed that securing sponsorship was a major hurdle until H.E. Gabriel Kwamigah Tanko Atokple’s decisive financial and logistical intervention. He expressed profound gratitude for H.E. Atokple's timely support and unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and development throughout the Volta Region, acknowledging him as the tournament's main sponsor.
Since its inception, the Duamenefa Foundation has steadfastly championed peacebuilding, social development, and community empowerment through sports and various social programs. Its flagship initiative, the Duamenefa Super Gala and Marathon Tournament, was launched on June 15, 2017. The tournament's vision was clear: to leverage football as a unifying force to promote peaceful coexistence among the people of the Volta Region, while also supporting the National Sports Authority and the Regional Football Association in talent nurturing. What began modestly with 46 participating football clubs experienced exponential growth, reaching 77 teams in 2018 and a historic 104 teams by 2019, setting a regional record for community sports competitions.
Mr. Evortepe acknowledged early scepticism but credited the tournament’s progress to faith, perseverance, and divine grace. Despite a temporary halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic between 2020 and 2021, the tournament has successfully regained momentum and is now celebrating its seventh edition, continuing to serve as a vital platform for youth development, peacebuilding, and unity. The foundation’s impact has been significantly amplified through a series of collaborations across education, health, and social welfare. Notable partners include Treasures of His Eyes (UK), an NGO supporting single parents; the Costheta Educational Support Fund (USA), providing annual scholarships to 20 students; Rutgers University (USA) offering scholarship support; Nyonyo Foundation (Ghana) providing periodic aid; Stephanie Butowsky (USA) supporting persons with disabilities; and Madam Christa Senega (USA) delivering periodic assistance in collaboration with the foundation's Minnesota State Director.
H.E. Tanko urged both governmental and regional authorities to institutionalise support for youth tournaments and to integrate the Duamenefa model into broader development plans. He emphasized that structured talent pathways and sustainable funding are crucial for transforming youth energy into long-term productivity. Furthermore, he encouraged the private sector to view investment in youth sports as a "multiplier investment in peace and productivity," stating that "nation-building is not an abstract exercise... It is the daily choice to invest in people and create systems that uplift. The Duamenefa Tournament is one such system, a platform for long-term transformation."
The Duamenefa Foundation’s vision—"empowering communities through unity, development, and faith"—is further reinforced by the continuous encouragement and backing of prominent national and regional figures, including H.E. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho, Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, and various traditional leaders. The Eduamenefa Grand Durbar, a vibrant celebration of unity and progress, brought together these dignitaries, traditional authorities, sponsors, community leaders, and youth groups, vividly reflecting the foundation’s enduring slogan: "Peace, Development, and Empowerment Through Action."
