Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has named two separate squads for Nigeria’s upcoming fixtures, splitting his selection between the Unity Cup in London and high-profile friendlies against Portugal and Poland in June.

The approach reflects a clear strategy: give emerging players exposure in the Unity Cup, while relying on established stars for the tougher European tests. For the Unity Cup, Chelle has included a 27-man squad featuring 12 debutants, with seven players drawn from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Young domestic talents such as Michael Atata, Tosin Oyedokun, Chibueze Oputa, Elias Ochobi, and Ayobami Junior are among those rewarded for strong league performances, supported by experienced names like Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, and Francis Uzoho to provide balance and leadership.

The group also includes overseas-based prospects such as Zadok Abu Yohanna, Rafiu Durosinmi, Owen Oseni, Femi Azeez, and Arthur Okonkwo, highlighting a blend of youth development and international scouting reach.

In contrast, the squad for Portugal and Poland is built around Nigeria’s core senior players, including Victor Osimhen, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, and Samuel Chukwueze, alongside a mix of regular internationals across defence, midfield, and attack.

Notable omissions such as Ola Aina, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Stanley Nwabali point to a selective, form-driven approach as Chelle refines his tactical structure. The selections underline increased competition for established players, particularly in wide attacking roles, where emerging performers like Femi Azeez and Zadok Abu Yohanna are beginning to challenge for long-term spots in the national team setup.
