Phoenix Suns Set to Dazzle Fans with Giant Exterior Video Display for All-Star Game
Phoenix's Mortgage Matchup Center, home to the Suns and Mercury, is undergoing a multimillion-dollar upgrade with a unique, massive transparent LED exterior display. Set for completion by September, this enhancement aims to boost the fan experience and serve as a downtown centerpiece, all in preparation for Phoenix hosting the 2027 NBA All-Star Game.
Phoenix is making significant preparations for the upcoming 2027 NBA All-Star Game, scheduled for February, by implementing a highly visible upgrade at the Mortgage Matchup Center, the home arena for both the Phoenix Suns and the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury. This multimillion-dollar enhancement involves the installation of a massive LED display on the exterior of the arena, set to measure an impressive 226 feet wide by 41 feet tall.
This transparent LED display will be a unique feature, making the Mortgage Matchup Center the only NBA or WNBA arena to boast such a large transparent exterior screen. The installation is projected to be completed and operational sometime in September, well in advance of the All-Star festivities.
Josh Bartelstein, CEO of both the Suns and the Mercury, highlighted that this new display is not merely an enhancement for the All-Star weekend but is envisioned as a central component of downtown Phoenix. Bartelstein expressed hopes that the display will serve as a vibrant hub where fans can engage with recent game highlights, view previews for upcoming matches, or gather for watch parties during crucial away games. He underscored owner Mat Ishbia's consistent drive to elevate the fan experience, stating, "It's something that [owner] Mat [Ishbia] pushes us on every year -- what's the big thing to improve the fan experience?" The organization aims to create "memories that will last a lifetime" for its dedicated fanbase, which currently supports a 209-game sellout streak for the Suns, encompassing both regular season and postseason games since 2021.
The city of Phoenix is set to host the NBA All-Star Game for the fourth time in its history, marking its first hosting opportunity since 2009. Prior to this, Phoenix also hosted the WNBA All-Star Game in 2024, an event during which Mat Ishbia made a substantial financial commitment by unveiling a $100 million practice facility exclusively dedicated to the Phoenix Mercury. Regarding the upcoming NBA All-Star Game, Bartelstein stated, "Mat has tasked us with making it the best ever." This ambition extends to meticulous attention to detail for every visitor, player, and team involved, promising that "You're going to see that once the All-Star Game comes here in February." The new videoboard is anticipated to make a significant "statement" upon arrival, with many other planned initiatives designed to distinguish the event and contribute to the growth of the league.
