Stolen Nigerian Vehicles Recovered in Ghana and Niger; Suspects Arrested

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), in robust collaboration with INTERPOL offices in Ghana and Niger Republic, has successfully recovered several vehicles stolen in Nigeria and trafficked across international borders. These significant recoveries underscore the NPF's commitment to tackling cross-border crime and enhancing security through international cooperation.

Among the notable recoveries is a 2020 Toyota Prado, which belonged to a Nigerian Federal Government agency. This vehicle was stolen during a recent robbery incident in Abuja and was subsequently tracked and recovered in Accra, Ghana. The operation, facilitated by joint efforts between INTERPOL NCB Abuja and INTERPOL NCB Accra, led to the arrest of three suspects in Ghana. These individuals are currently facing charges in an Accra court. Following its recovery, the Toyota Prado was successfully repatriated to Nigeria and formally handed over to the concerned government agency.

In a parallel operation, operatives of INTERPOL NCB Abuja also recovered a 2018 Toyota Hilux. This vehicle, also owned by another Nigerian Federal Government agency, was stolen from a staff member in the Utako District, FCT Abuja, on October 18, 2024. Through extensive investigation and international cooperation, particularly with INTERPOL NCB Niamey, the vehicle was tracked to Agadez, Niger Republic. It was officially handed over at the Nigeria-Niger border (Ilela/Konni) to a senior representative of the agency.

The Nigeria Police Force continues its diligent efforts, with ongoing processes to finalize the recovery and return of two additional high-value vehicles: a Toyota Land Cruiser SUV and a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV. Both vehicles were stolen from their owners in Abuja in May 2025 and were later located after being sold in Niamey, Niger Republic.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has commended the operational efficiency of the INTERPOL teams involved, reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force's dedication to global policing and cross-border security collaboration. He also expressed appreciation for the crucial support received from INTERPOL NCB Accra, INTERPOL NCB Niamey, and the Nigerian High Commission in Accra. To enhance swift recovery efforts in the unfortunate event of vehicle theft, the NPF strongly urges all citizens to register their vehicles on the police electronic platforms and implement necessary precautions.
