Minister Wike Orders Streetlights for Wassa Road, Commends Tinubu's FCT Impact

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ordered the installation of streetlights on the newly completed OSEX II road, which connects the Apo and Wassa districts. This significant infrastructure project had been abandoned for nearly a decade by previous administrations. During a project inspection tour on Thursday, Wike explained that the omission of streetlights in the original plan was an oversight in the contract, which was initially awarded over ten years ago.

"It was not awarded by this administration, but President Tinubu insisted that we must complete abandoned projects. I have directed that streetlights be installed," Wike stated. He also confirmed that the construction company CGC has already submitted their quotation for the streetlight installation. The minister emphasized that the addition of streetlights would significantly improve safety for residents and road users in the area.

In addition to the OSEX II road, Minister Wike's inspection tour included visits to other critical infrastructure projects, namely the Kubwa interchange and the Daki Biyu road. He reported that both of these projects are nearing completion and are among several key developments slated for inauguration in June. These projects are part of a broader effort to enhance the infrastructure within the FCT.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress and standard of the ongoing works, Wike remarked, "The quality of work we are seeing is impressive. Abuja residents deserve the best, and that’s what Mr. President is delivering."

Reflecting on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s two years in office, Wike lauded the administration's accomplishments, particularly within the Federal Capital Territory. "Even critics now admit that Abuja is working. That’s due to Mr. President’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said, highlighting the positive changes and development momentum in the capital city.

However, Wike also addressed ongoing challenges, expressing concern over the lingering strike by primary school teachers affiliated with FCT area councils. He called upon the elected council chairmen and the relevant National Assembly committees to take decisive action to resolve the situation and ensure that the educational sector functions smoothly.
