FCTA Approves Streetlight Upgrade on Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Executive Committee has approved a contract for upgrading streetlights on Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway (Ring Road I). Mr. Richard Dauda, the acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), announced this during a briefing in Abuja. The project was among seven memos submitted by the FCDA and approved for consideration.

Dauda explained that the project involves upgrading the obsolete streetlights on the 14-kilometer, 10-lane Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway, which stretches from Maitama to Gudu. He noted that many sections of the expressway are currently dark at night due to the age and condition of the streetlights.

According to Dauda, the streetlights have been in place for nearly 15 years, having been installed when the road project was completed between 2005 and 2006. He stated that the lights have become obsolete and no longer provide adequate illumination for the road.
