Stephen Curry's Return Delayed as Knee Rehab Extends!

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has indicated that his return from a persistent right knee issue will take "a little longer" than initially hoped. Speaking to ESPN, Curry revealed he has not yet advanced to court work, describing the injury as "a weird one" with unpredictable healing. The prolonged absence comes as the Warriors faced a significant 129-101 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, marking Curry's tenth consecutive game missed due to his condition.

Curry is suffering from patellofemoral pain syndrome, commonly known as "runner's knee," characterized by swelling and pain around the kneecap. The team had initially been optimistic about his return immediately following the All-Star break. However, Curry experienced a setback during a workout in that hiatus and informed the training staff upon his return to the facility that he was not ready for live court action. Consequently, the Warriors decided to shut him down from court work for a period of ten days. He was observed performing weight-bearing squats on his right knee pregame on Saturday, and a further status update from the team is anticipated on Sunday. It is widely expected that he will be sidelined for at least several more games.

Despite the physical hurdles, Curry remains determined to rejoin his team, stating a strong desire to return to the court to help the Warriors secure a playoff spot. He emphasized the importance of stacking "good days" in his recovery process and hopes to be "unleashed on the court soon." Curry acknowledged that once he returns, it will involve a "pain tolerance thing," but he is wary of allowing the issue to linger and potentially worsen. The Warriors currently hold a 31-29 record following their recent loss, placing them in the eighth seed and seemingly destined for the play-in tournament.

The team is also grappling with other significant player absences. Curry's co-star, Jimmy Butler III, sustained an ACL tear in January and is out for the remainder of the season. Additionally, the Warriors' trade deadline acquisition, Kristaps Porzingis, has been unavailable for four consecutive games due to an illness and has only played a total of 17 minutes since joining the team, compounding the challenges faced by the Golden State roster.
