CAPE TOWN - Questions are being asked about the real reason 49 South Africans have gone to the United States as refugees.

US President Donald  Trump claims a "genocide" is taking place in South Africa, and that white farmers, specifically, are being targeted.

But there are about 36 000 commercial farmers in South Africa and many more smallholder and household farmers. And none of them are fleeing to the US.

The Western Cape Agriculture MEC says those who have left or intend leaving must tell the truth.
