Startup Mogul Alakh Pandey's Fortune Eclipses Shah Rukh Khan's Wealth

Alakh Pandey, the co-founder of the education startup PhysicsWallah, has seen a remarkable surge in his net worth, successfully paving his way into the prestigious Hurun India Rich List 2025. This meteoric rise, which witnessed his wealth jump by an astounding 223% in the past year, has positioned him as one of India's fastest wealth creators in percentage terms. His net worth is reported to be ₹14,510 crore, placing him among the nation's richest individuals and notably surpassing that of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, whose net worth was recorded at ₹12,490 crore.
Pandey's achievement is also shared by his co-founder, Prateek Maheshwari, who experienced a similar 223% increase in wealth. According to a statement by Hurun, their combined wealth reached ₹14,520 crore, reflecting PhysicsWallah's robust growth trajectory from its origins in Allahabad and Ajmer. This impressive financial growth for the founders occurred despite PhysicsWallah incurring a net loss of nearly ₹243 crore in the financial year ending 2024-25. However, this figure represents a significant 78% reduction in losses compared to the ₹1,131 crore net loss reported in the previous year. Furthermore, the company's total income witnessed a substantial increase, rising to ₹2,886 crore in FY2024-25 from ₹1,940 crore previously, signaling a strong financial recovery and growth in demand for the ed-tech industry.
PhysicsWallah is now poised for further expansion, with plans to go public. The company has already filed its preliminary draft papers with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), indicating a potential Initial Public Offering (IPO) later this year. This move underscores the company's ambition and its successful navigation through sectoral headwinds.
Born in 1991, Alakh Pandey is not just a successful entrepreneur but also a significant figure in the Indian education sector, boasting over 11 years of experience. His journey began not with a traditional degree completion, as he dropped out of his Bachelor's in Technology (Mechanical Engineering) course at Harcourt Butler Technical University in Kanpur during his third year. In 2014, Pandey founded PhysicsWallah in Uttar Pradesh, and in 2016, he launched his eponymous YouTube channel. This online platform served as his entry into the ed-tech industry, where he rapidly gained popularity among students aspiring to join the IITs of the nation. As the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PhysicsWallah, Pandey has garnered numerous honors and awards for his achievements, particularly for his positive influence on youth through his social media platforms and business ventures.
Alakh Pandey's inclusion in the Hurun India Rich List 2025 alongside other prominent figures like Mukesh Ambani & family, Gautam Adani & family, Roshni Nadar Malhotra & family, Cyrus S Poonawalla & family, and Kumar Mangalam Birla & family, highlights his growing influence and the dynamic nature of wealth creation in India, particularly within the burgeoning ed-tech sector.
