Loss-Making Startup Founder's Net Worth Skyrockets, Surpassing Shah Rukh Khan!

Alakh Pandey, the co-founder of edtech firm Physics Wallah, has achieved a remarkable surge in his net worth over the past year, securing his entry into the prestigious Hurun India Rich List 2025. His fellow co-founder, Prateek Maheshwari, also saw his wealth skyrocket, earning him a position on the same esteemed list. Both Pandey and Maheshwari experienced an astounding 223 percent increase in their net worth, each reaching ₹14,520 crore, as stated by Hurun. This significant growth underscores Physics Wallah's continued strong trajectory from its origins in Allahabad and Ajmer.
Alakh Pandey's personal fortune of ₹14,510 crore now surpasses that of Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan, who holds a wealth of ₹12,490 crore. This rapid accumulation of wealth also positions Pandey among India's fastest wealth creators in percentage terms, placing him alongside prominent businessmen from sectors such as industrial products and jewellery.
Notably, this meteoric rise in Alakh Pandey's net worth occurred despite Physics Wallah reporting losses in recent financial years. The edtech firm posted a net loss of ₹243 crore in FY25, a substantial reduction of 78 percent compared to a loss of ₹1,131 crore in the previous fiscal year. Concurrently, the company's total income saw an increase, reaching ₹2,886 crore, up from ₹1,940 crore in the earlier fiscal. Despite these losses, the dramatic increase in the co-founders' net worth reflects the robust demand within the edtech industry, even amidst challenging economic conditions.
Physics Wallah is reportedly preparing for its Initial Public Offering (IPO) later this year, having already filed its draft papers with SEBI through a confidential pre-filing route. Recent reports indicate that the company has received a green light from the markets regulator, paving the way for the filing of its Red Herring Prospectus (RHP).
Born in 1991 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, Alakh Pandey is recognized as one of India's youngest and wealthiest entrepreneurs. His academic journey included pursuing a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering at Harcourt Butler Technical University in Kanpur, though he dropped out in his third year. Pandey embarked on his edtech venture in 2016 by launching his YouTube channel, 'Physics Wallah'. He quickly gained immense popularity among aspiring IITians, eventually transforming his online platform into the successful company that bears the same name.
