Spider-Man Icon Joins Top Video Game Franchise for Shocking Sequel Reveal!

The highly anticipated sequel to the 2025 blockbuster, "A Minecraft Movie," now has an official title: "A Minecraft Movie Squared." This second installment in the video game adaptation franchise is set to hit theaters on July 23, 2027, promising a bigger and better cinematic experience, a nod to both its expanded scope and the iconic cubical blocks of the game.
Warner Bros and Legendary are actively developing the sequel, which will see the return of key cast members Jason Momoa and Jack Black, reprising their roles. A significant new addition to the cast is Kirsten Dunst, who will portray Alex, the female counterpart to Black's Steve. Dunst takes over the role previously shared by Kate McKinnon (voice) and Alice May Connolly (body) in a post-credits scene of the original film. Jared Hess, director of the first film, is also returning to helm the sequel and will co-write the screenplay with Chris Galletta.
The original "A Minecraft Movie" was a surprise box office success, grossing an impressive $961 million USD globally against a $150 million budget. The first film introduced audiences to siblings Henry (Sebastian Hansen) and Natalie (Emma Myers), who move to Chuglass, Idaho, after their mother's death. Henry's encounter with washed-up video game champion Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison (Momoa) leads to the accidental activation of a mysterious artifact. This event transports them to Overworld, a dimension where inhabitants can construct almost anything imaginable. Natalie and real estate agent Dawn (Danielle Brooks) soon follow, where they meet the imaginative Steve (Black), who shaped much of Overworld's civilization. Together, they confront the porcine witch Malgosha (Rachel House). Meanwhile, Overworld resident Nitwit (Matt Berry) is inadvertently sent to the real world, finding an unexpected romance with Henry's vice principal, Marlene (Jennifer Coolidge).
Fans will also have a unique opportunity to contribute to the sequel's production. Microsoft and Warner Bros. are sponsoring the "Minecraft Movie Build Challenge," a contest where winning fan-created builds will be featured in "A Minecraft Movie Squared." Full entry details for this exciting contest can be found on Minecraft.net.
